I have been involved in photography since my junior high school days. Let’s see, that was in 1971. I’ll let you do the math as to how long I’ve been shooting and how old I am.
My dad, Alfred Larson (of Mountain Bluebird fame) was very much a mentor to me in photography and built a very nice black and white dark room. It was fun taking images with the old Brownie box camera. It was so simple back then.
My interest in photography did not falter as I progressed through my years of school. I became a Nikon fan and had the original FM manual SLR which was a great little camera. I moved back and forth from shooting print film (Kodak Royal Gold 25 was my favorite) to slide film (Velvia – or Velveta as on of my “cheesy” friends named it. The Nikon body was upgraded to a 8008s which made life easier with all of the automatic features.
I was a fairly early adopter of digital, purchasing an Olympus D-490Z, followed by Olympus E-10. That totally sold me on the idea of digital, so all of my film gear went for sale on eBay. Nikon gear has a good resale value I found. Well, it came time for another upgrade of the equipment and there were some pretty cool SLR digitals hitting the market, so I took the plunge and bought a Canon 10D. Well, Nikon was considered, but I had read a lot about Canon and they seemed to be leading at the time. I’ve been a Canon fan ever since. I now also own a Canon 20D which is a big improvement over the 10D.
Prior to Scott’s and my creation of IdahoSportsPics.com in early 2004 most of my photography centered around scenic and travel type of images. I also take a lot of photographs of my wife’s classical guitar students at their recitals. One other thing to mention is that I am an official Boise, Idaho native. There are not too many of us left.
As Scott mentioned in his autobiography, our hope is that you will enjoy the various sporting event photos as much as we’ve enjoyed shooting them. If you find some you like, we ask that you would consider purchasing to help cover our expenses.
